When I get old

After 8 hours of sailing, we arrived at Tunø. It was late in the afternoon. There were many boats in the harbor, so many that there were no available spots. We hailed one boat that was alongside one of the piers and were allowed to moor alongside.

More boats kept coming in. No one had yet noticed that one more boat (with a little effort) might be moored alongside of us.

Around dinner, a boat with a man and a woman on board approached.

The woman on the bow scanned the marina and quickly spotted the available spot alongside of us. Without a word, she directed the man at the helm with a gesture towards the vacant spot.

When they were within speaking distance, the woman asked if they could moor along-side on us.

Of course, we answered yes and helped them with the mooring lines. When the boat was moored, we fell into conversation.

The woman told us that, like the past 5 years, they had spent 14 days on Anholt. Even during the three days of strong gales from the west. Early this morning, they sailed from there. They sailed under sail to Grenå in rough seas and had a fair amount of wind. When the wind died down, they started the engine and endured the next several hours with patience.

"60 nautical miles," she said, "it's damn far in one day. We have to leave at 6.00: a.m. tomorrow, so we'll turn in early."

»But now we want to go down and eat the food we brought from Dellen. We also take a schnaps, "she said, adding" because you are allowed to do that when you like us are

cozy in DK too. A few days ago we enjoyed your video from the Ionian Sea. Have you left Greece this year? We have been in Badalona all winter, finally left on Monday, been to Sóller in Mallorca and arrived this morning at Carloforte in Sardinia. We are heading towards the Greek.

We will stop if we no longer can handle it physically anymore. Now 64 and 70 planning or next trip from North Italy non stop to Greece and later back via Albania, Montenegro and Croatia. 4 months on board the best time of the Year!

It's not about age. It's about fitness and capacity and desire.

Last year in the Ionian we met an 83 year old man single sailing and an 85 year old woman single sailing. Both sharp as tacks and fit as fiddles.
