We have been happy to be in Alicante. Enjoyed the atmosphere, the climate and the light.
We gradually know the city well, understand more of the language, culture and history and have also visited a few of the many sights that can be reached on a day trip by car.
In mid-December we moved to an apartment a few kilometers north of Alicante. The apartment is on the 7th and top floor of a property adjacent to a small marina. From all rooms there is a view of the Mediterranean Sea and Alicante city.
The neighborhood is called Albufereta. It was here that the Phoenicians (Punics) and later the Greeks arrived and founded the trading station Akra Leuka, which the Romans later expanded and called Lucentum. When the Moors conquered the Iberian Peninsula around the year 700, they founded the city in its current location and called it Al Laquant. 500 years later, the Christians conquered the city, which since then has been called Alacant in Catalan and Alicante in Spanish.
The property faces south and on clear days (of which there are most here) it gets hot on the terrace. So hot that we have gone down to the beach several times and gone into the water, which has gradually reached a temperature of 15 degrees.
It is cheap and easy to fly to Alicante from Copenhagen. Since the beginning of December, we have said many good days and goodbyes to visiting family and friends. We said our last goodbyes in mid-January – a few days before the lease expired.
It could well be extended, but we have gained the courage to experience more of Spain, have rented a car and headed south.
In early February we fly from Malaga to Copenhagen.
My cousin lives in Alicante. I have never visited her. She usually comes to Denmark once a year and visits the family. You know her Pia, from when we were kids. We drove to the beach. You and I in our worn bathing suits and my cousin in gold bikini. You dropped her on the bike on the way home. Accidents of course. But now she lives in Malaga because of her poor health. She has sclerosis and the weather is better there. Keep it good. Thank you for the good speeches. Interesting to follow.
